When can I start?
New students can begin any day of the week. Get started by scheduling your introductory course. Your journey begins with a phone call or by stopping by today!
What style of Martial arts is taught at Ray's Tae Kwon Do Center?
We teach Tae Kwon Do - a Korean Martial Art. At Ray's Tae Kwon Do Center, we train the Mind, Body and Spirit!
How often do I come to class?
In order for you to learn and retain the skills and to achieve the positive habits necessary to become physically fit, beginners are expected to attend classes at least two times a week for the first six months. After that you may decide to train more often. Although students may attend classes every day, for now, just get into the habit of coming to class at least twice-a-week ready to train hard and learn all you can.
When will I know when I am ready to test?
Each student will receive a form (test sheet) when ready to test. Belt promotions are held every three months. Students should be testing regularly and plan on advancing in belt every three months. Master Ray will determine if you have met the requirements for your belt and have attended the minimum number of classes. Students must wear a clean white dobok (uniform) when testing.
Do students have to reach a certain level before they can compete?
Students may compete at all levels, white thru black belt. Students will always compete within their current belt level. We offer special classes for those who are interested in competing. Please see Master Ray to determine if your child is ready for this type of training.
How do I join the DEMO-TEAM?
Students must try-out in order to make the team. Tryouts are held yearly in September. New members may be added during the year with Master Rays permission. Members must be active students with good attendance. They must maintain at least a "B" average in school and are expected to attend all Demo-Team practices. .
What do the different colored stripes represent?
The Red stripe is for when a student knows his form. The Yellow stripe is for blocks. The Blue stripe is for combination kicks. The Green stripe is for breaking kicks. Once a student earns all their stripes they will be eligible to take the next promotion test.
Do I have to be in shape before I start training here?
One of the biggest misconceptions about training to be a martial artist is that you have to already be in shape to learn. Most students come to us looking to get in shape and to develop a healthy lifestyle by learning an ancient art form that can transform the course of their lives. Two months after you start you will feel so much better physically, mentally and spiritually.
So, how long does it take to earn my black belt?
Everyone progresses at their own pace, but the average time it takes to earn your black belt is around three to five years as long as you consistently train hard and come to class.
When should students bow?
Students should bow when entering and leaving the dojang. Students should bow towards instructors.
Will my training give me the confidence to take more chances in life?
Definitely, becoming a martial artist is a way of life. The success you experience as a martial artist will transcend into all areas of your daily life. For example, you can see how you've accomplished breaking a board to earn your yellow belt, then why can't you go in and ask for that promotion at work? Understanding you can accomplish what you set out to do is a great discovery that can be achieved through consistent training.
